Sade CD Replaces the Fugitives’ Eccentrically We Love

From a March 31 2010 press release:
“At about 3pm this past Sunday, less than 24 hours prior to departing on a cross-Canada tour, Vancouver’s The Fugitives received a worrying phone-call. It was from Vancouver musician Prairie Cat, who band member Barbara Adler had been trying to shmooze. When Prairie Cat tried to play his copy of The Fugitives‘ new album, Eccentrically We Love, he got something quite different from the indie-roots music he’d been expecting. A mix-up at the CD plant had replaced some copies of the band’s new album with Sade’s new disc, Soldier of Love.
“‘I guess when Cary (of Prairie Cat) opened up the CD, it was all our packaging, but then the actual CD is Sade’s,’” explains Adler. “‘At first he thought that we were being kind of experimental, putting Sade’s name on our CD.’” Turns out the mixed-up discs also play Sade, leaving The Fugitives in an awkward predicament. When the band members opened up a few more CDs, they found out they were dealing with about a “25% Sade infection, spread randomly through an order of 2000 CDs. Both discs are black, and have the word ‘love’ in the title, but that’s where the resemblance ends. Sade is known for her soulful R&B, while the The Fugitives‘ trademark is mixing spoken word storytelling with banjos, accordions and strange European mandolins.
“‘So much for shmoozing,’ laughs Adler. ‘The bright side is that our CD is probably in some of Sade’s albums. We might finally have international distribution.’
“The band plans to alert audiences at their live shows of the mix-up, and will replace any Sade CDs that turn up. Plans are in the works to cover a Sade hit. ‘We don’t really have any tracks that you can make out to yet,’ jokes Adler, ’so maybe we should see this as a sign. Sade is awesome to make out to! We’re in!’”
Eccentrically We Love was released on March 23. The Fugitives start their tour in Winnipeg on April 1st.

Wow. The Fugitives are seemingly cursed when it comes to touring and CDs! You should just give it up and promote yourselves with spoken word. We all want to hear you – but lets be honest live is better than recorded. Leave the albums at home and be Fugitives everywhere you go.
